Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set
an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Leah O'Brien

Leah O’Brien graduated from Oakleaf High School in Jacksonville, Florida, in May 2025, earning her diploma while balancing a challenging academic load, multiple extracurricular activities, and a strong commitment to service. She completed dual enrollment courses to earn college credit and successfully became both a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and EKG Technician, demonstrating her early dedication to a future in healthcare.

Leah was a highly involved and respected student at Oakleaf High School. She managed both the varsity basketball and track teams, showing leadership, responsibility, and the ability to balance academics with athletic coordination. Leah also took on a full academic schedule and maintained the honor roll, reflecting her strong work ethic and discipline. Her educational achievements, combined with her certifications, set her apart as a focused and determined future medical professional.

In addition to academics and sports, Leah dedicated over 100 hours to volunteer work and community service. She served patients and supported healthcare staff at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital, gaining early clinical exposure and a deeper appreciation for patient care. She also volunteered through Elevate Life Church, assisting in the Summer Blast children’s program and participating monthly in feeding the homeless and other outreach efforts.

Leah is proud of her Caribbean heritage and is committed to addressing health disparities in underserved communities, especially for minorities and women. She plans to become a cardiothoracic surgical physician assistant and is taking purposeful steps to reach that goal.

In Fall 2025, Leah will attend Florida A&M University (FAMU), majoring in Cardiopulmonary Science on the pre-physician assistant track. She has been accepted into FAMU’s prestigious Cardiopulmonary Science Program, which aligns perfectly with her long-term goals. Leah is especially excited to attend an HBCU, where she will be surrounded by academic excellence, cultural empowerment, and a supportive community.

Leah is the daughter of a hardworking single mother, Kaisha O'Brien, and the granddaughter of a brave Bermudian woman who emigrated to America in pursuit of education and opportunity for her family, Margaret Murry. Their legacy of sacrifice and strength inspires Leah daily as she works toward a future of healing, service, and advocacy.
